A Light
On an island in a distant sea,
she walks aimlessly, distracted.
Pausing every now and again,
taking in the view.
Something catches her eye,
glistening under the water in a creek.
Excitedly she reaches out to take it.
It's light, warm and iridescent.
She breaks it into pieces.
One by one she sends them out,
lifted up and carried by the currents.
Each with a separate destination.
She sits happily at the shore awaiting their return.
Morning. Afternoon. Evening.
Her face once beaming now rests on her knees,
depleted, tired, withdrawn.
With a final sigh she turns and leaves.
Laying down in a bed of grass she falls asleep,
as twinkling lights float across the sky.
Pieces break off, cascading down, falling silently.
One lands and finds itself nestled between two stones,
glistening in a nearby stream.
